Who'd have guessed The cold midwest Is where You'd be Shining down Far from the towns Of Galilee O Jesus, help us listen O Jesus, help us see Your Kingdom come Your will be done On earth, Your Majesty Lord, it hurts Come break the curse And heal this land It's way too hard It's battle-scarred Like everyman O Jesus, help us listen O Jesus, help us see Your Kingdom come Your will be done On earth, Your Majesty

Patience patience is what we need For waiting without wasting time Working working the soil with seed To reap all the grain faith will find Cuz it won't be long before we hear Him shout And it won't be long before the trumpet sounds And it won't be long before the dead in Christ will rise Courage courage is what we need For giving without giving in Working working the soil with seed To feast on the bread faith will win Cuz it won't be long before we hear Him shout And it won't be long before the trumpet sounds And it won't be long before the dead in Christ will rise

Isn't it strange How we miss a place we've never even seen Cuz this wilderness is somewhere in between The land we came from And the land we will receive Isn't it strange? But isn't it good That our slavery to sin was left behind When He broke the bread and let us drink the wine Of His forgiveness And the water of His life Isn't it good? Isn't it good Isn't it good Isn't it good to be alive? Isn't it hard Resurrection never comes without the cross And when you see the pain of people who are lost Without the answer That demands of them their life Isn't it hard? But isn't it good The wages of our sin were fully paid To the only one who never disobeyed And it is finished It's finished on that cross Isn't it good? Isn't it good Isn't it good Isn't it good to be alive In Christ?

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord If He's raised you from the dead If He's called you out of the darkness And now you run to Him instead Praise the Lord Hallelujah! What a friend He can keep you til the Day Cuz He was tempted and He was abandoned But He never turned away Praise the Lord

When guilt comes back around And pushes you down in the shadows And tells you to stay there and hide Because everyone knows All the evidence shows That you're really just posing and playing the part While you're filthy inside Don't believe it Don't believe it Don't believe it Don't believe it Cuz your guilt was nailed to the cross You're no longer lost in the shadows You're found in the favor of Christ So let everyone know Let the evidence show That His Spirit is living and giving the love Of His great sacrifice Cuz you believe it You believe it You believe it You believe it Cuz He lives to make you his own You're never alone in the shadows You're safe in the kingdom of light And the glory of God Is the loss of His blood Oh Father, great is Your love Great is Your love

We are voices, we are voices With words from the past In the desert preparing Your way We are watching, we are waiting For all that will last In the kingdom revealed on that day When every eye will see You Even those who pierced You And every knee will bow down And every tongue will cry out Jesus is Lord Jesus is Lord of Lords We are children, we are children Alive from the dead In the kingdom we seek and proclaim We are watching, we are waiting For all that You said To reveal every heart for Your name When every eye will see You Even those who pierced You And every knee will bow down And every tongue will cry out Jesus is Lord Jesus is Lord of Lords

about

The summer of 2009, I worked and lived with Hispanic migrants on a blueberry farm. Most of them had very nice vehicles, but none had homes.

In August, they moved down to the Carolinas, and I moved back to Hudsonville. I had a handful of new songs about the Christian idea of home, so I invited my parents and a bunch of friends to make a record. We shared food and made music for two days.

Music and meals help me understand life. They make me aware of time as a gift instead of a constraint.

But gatherings like these, though they seem to be the concentrate of human living, do not last. Most of the friends on this album have moved away for grad school or work or some other thing.

In a sense, maybe everyone can identify with migrant workers. People don't settle down; we move. Or if we do settle down, we age, which is an unsettling movement toward death.

So I like the book of Revelation, because it describes heaven as a great homecoming of feast and song. If Jesus unites our gatherings before death, the resurrection will be our first gathering with no foreboding of separation.

Until then, we are homesick.
